There was a dusting of snow on the Maroma as we drove down.

With some rain and a warmer winter there are lots of flowers appearing in the verges - sadly I don't know their names!

...we were awoken at 5.20 with swaying bed and everything rattling. A 6.1 earthquake in the Med off Africa....a bit disconcerting and somewhat scary! There have been lots in the last while but so far we've only felt this one!

Nothing to do with the 'quake'...just a nice picture of an olive studded hillside!

Alhama de Granada overhangs a spectacular gorge and in fact there ae dwellings built into the stone as well as on top. It has its origins in prehistoric times and has been continuously inhabited since then. It has churches, an aqueduct, an Inquisition house, dungeons, a Roman bridge, remains of a Muslim water tower, derelict flour mills, fountains, Roman baths....and good cafes, shops and restaurants!

On Sunday we headed to Alhama de Granada for a walk through the canyon along with nine friends. It was a really lovely day, sunny and warm and the views of the hillsides as we drove there were just beautiful!

We had coffee in the square before starting and as we set off we realised that the Church and the Convent of N. S Del Carmen was open...for a service we thought but no it was for a tour. Apparently it's rarely open so we took the opportunity to have a wee look around.!

We've been walking and driving around...some 'roads' are just tracks that are steep, windy and made up of loose stones...very testing for our driving skills and for our wee Fiat Punto! But the countryside is looking so beautiful just now.

We had previously seen this water course from the opposite side while driving through the Tadeja National Park on the side of the Maroma. We had to investigate...although very dry it's an amazing piece of building work!

We came upon a small chapel, with strange Windows, in the middle of a field!
